“It’s as if I’m Finnick, watching images of my life flash by. The mast of a boat, a silver parachute, Mags laughing, a pink sky, Beetee’s trident, Annie in her wedding dress, waves breaking over rocks. Then it’s over.”
The world is too heavy, too big for my shoulders, come take this weight off me now.
“Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief-Makers …”
Madge glided across the Hawthorne’s living room, admiring all the photographs sitting in aged frames on the mantel piece. At the end was a picture of Gale and Katniss - one presumably taken in the meadow. Madge could feel something blocking her throat as she stared at the smiling faces of him and her. Tears formed in her eyes but she fought any threatening to fall. There was the creak of a floorboard and Madge whipped her head round to see Gale standing tall in the doorway. He nodded.
“That was a long time ago, you know. Or at least it feels that way,” he said calmly. His eyes locked with hers. He gave her a warm and reassuring smile. “Everything’s changed now.” The corners of her mouth curled slightly.
“Okay,” she said, quietly. Though what he said was true, Madge still had her doubts that if Katniss returned, all these new feelings would just become a distant memory.
